We stayed at Rocky's resort for 6 nights from 7-13 January 2013, the weather was great and between 32-36 degrees during the day and 28-30 degrees at night, perfect!
We ordered the Limousine service from Samui airport and were immediatly greeted by Bom from the Rocky's resort, the vehicle had cold towels and bottled water, Bom was also very pleasant so this was a great first impression.
We arrived at the resort about 30 minutes later and were greeted at reception by the smiling receptionist Tang and the front of house manager Boi, they were genuinly interested in our trip so far and welcomed us to Rocky's.
We were in a Deluxe pool view villa room, number 605, we booked direct with Rocky's and paid 7700 baht a night, this represented good value for money and was less expensive than booking through an agent. The room was spacious and very beautiful, it was obvious that someone had taken a lot of time to ensure every detail was perfect, and the biggest thing to us was the bed, large and very comfortable.
We went on a walk around the resort, it very much had a feeling like the Maldives, the restaurant was right by the ocean, the ocean a lovely blue colour and just the right amount of vegetation around the resort. There were two swimming pools, one next to the sea and one close to the grill restaurant.
The resort has many themed nights and our first night was a Thai BBQ evening which involved food and entertainment, the food was amazing, a variety of dishes with an international twist, something for everyone with lots of different fish, meat and chicken dishes, simply delicious. The evenings entertainment was great, initially it started with a live guitarist and singer followed by a very tasteful ladyboy cabaret, really good fun. We also went to the Thai food night which was amazing, they had some traditional thai dancers that evening which really was the icing on the cake. We ate 3 nights in the restaurant and one in the grill, I have to give a big pat on the back to the amazing chef Azizs, he is always in evident, checking the food and serving the most amazing dishes, I suggest that Rocky's ensure they keep hold of such a talented chef, our total food experience was first class.
The service in the Restaurant was also totally professional, Food and Beverage Manager was a younger chap from France called Julien, a charming man with a really good knowledge of food and Wine, every night he choose the wine for us to compliment our meal and they were all perfect choices, thank you Julien. I would mention some of the other waitresses, all Thai and extremely pleasant, Tiew, Prik and L thank you.
The breakfasts at this resort are not to be missed, a large choice of international food, all first class in quality and perfectly cooked, don't miss it.
Most days we bumped into Colette who is one of the owners of the resort, she is british and very personable, the resorts beauty is down to her as she organises all the decor and attention to detail in the resort, quite some talent.
The only negative was the lack of a gym, however we did chat with a personal trainer called Marco who said he would happily do personal training sessions, eventually we decided that it was a holiday and using any gym would only stop us from getting more of a tan!
This resort has a further two amazing staff, Mira and Martin. Mira is a beautiful lady from Finland and is the Guest Services Manager, she chatted to us every day and nothing was too much trouble, thank you Mira. Martin is the resorts General Manager, he's English, very professional and customer service orientated, he works hard and chats happily with guests and staff, obviously extremely respected and liked by his staff. We attended Martin's managers cocktail party on Friday night and enjoyed the free cocktails as well as a brilliant display of cocktail aking and Juggling by Boat the resorts talented barman, how you can juggle 4 bottles of spirit is beyond me, very entertaining.
We also had a massage at the resorts spa area near the beach, it was amazing to be massaged whilst listening to the sounds of the waves, this is a must and an unforgetable experience. I asked guest relations to sort out a days golf for me and I played at the spectacular Santiburi a couple of times, 5000 baht a round plus 1800 baht to hire clubs, it sounds expensive but it was worth every penny, the views are just amazing, the caddies great, if only my golf was better though! One good bit of advice is to bring lots of mosquito spray, although the resort is sprayed fully once a week the island isn't, I sprayed myself two or three times a day and only got two bites.
To summarise the hotel is a 4 star catagory with 5 star accomodation, food and service, it represents extremely good valus for money and is about 50% of the cost of the Four Seasons, so if you like luxury and piece and quiet in beautiful surroundings then look no further. Finally on a funny note the only issue I had was the weight scales, obviously broken as when i arrived i weighted 79kg and when i left i weighed 82kg, please get those scales mended Martin!! Thank you Rocky's for an unforgetable holiday, we will without question be returning. Room Tip: The pool view rooms are amazing, suggest you go for a first floor one if you can. The sea view rooms...
